Confirmation is one of the three Sacraments of Christian Initiation, along with Baptism and the Eucharist. It completes and strengthens the grace received at Baptism, deepens our relationship with God, and strengthens the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation also draws us more fully into the life of the Church and calls us to live as faithful disciples of Christ.
Through our Confirmation preparation program, students will deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, they will be encouraged to take an active role in the Church and put their faith into action through prayer, worship, and loving service to others.
Confirmation Registration Eligibility:
At St. Luke Catholic Church, preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two-year formation process. During this time, students deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith, strengthen their relationship with Jesus Christ, and learn what it means to live as faithful members of the Catholic Church.
Year 1: Preparation typically begins when a student enters seventh grade. Students participate in our Family Faith Formation program or receive equivalent religious education through a Catholic school or approved Catholic homeschool program.
Year 2: Students entering eighth grade who have successfully completed Year 1—or its equivalent—may register for the final year of Confirmation preparation.
Students must be baptized Catholics and have received First Eucharist before entering the final year of preparation. High school students in grades 9–12 who have not yet been confirmed are also encouraged to contact the parish office so that we can determine the appropriate preparation path.
Confirmation Class Requirements and Structure:
Formation for the celebration of Confirmation involves the cooperative efforts of parents (the primary educators), pastors, catechists and young adults. It is a time for a young adult to become a mature, practicing Catholic, characterized by the willingness to personally follow Christ and actively participate in the vital mission of His Church.
Readiness to receive Confirmation means the student actively attends and participates in Sunday Mass, Faith Formation classes, retreats, and perform service activities.
Attendance Policy:
Participation in all Confirmation preparation sessions is expected. Each session builds upon the previous one and includes prayer, catechesis, discussion, and activities that cannot be fully replicated through independent study.

Choosing a Sponsor:
A sponsor is a witness to the commitment to Christ that you are making. The sponsor can be a Godparent or any other active Catholic adult, but not a parent, such as a mother or father.
To assist the candidate in their preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation, a sponsor must be chosen and approved by the end of November when the student is in their 2nd year of classes.
