First Reconciliation & First Holy Communion

- Sacramental Preparation Requirements
  The Diocese of St. Augustine requires children to participate in two consecutive years of approved Catholic faith formation before receiving First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This process may begin in first grade or later.
  During the first year, children grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus. They learn about God’s love for them and how they are called to respond through prayer, worship, and the way they live. During the second year, children continue to deepen their Catholic identity while completing additional preparation specifically focused on the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.
  Faith Formation Enrollment
  Children preparing to receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion must also be actively participating in one of the following:
  
  St. Luke Catholic Church Family Faith Formation
  A Catholic school within the Diocese of St. Augustine
  An approved Catholic homeschool religious education program
  
  Homeschool families must provide information about the religious education curriculum and materials being used at home.
  First Sacrament Classes
  First Sacrament preparation is a two-part process. Children continue their regular religious education throughout the year and also attend additional sacramental preparation classes beginning in January. These classes directly prepare them to receive First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Parents play an essential role throughout the process by attending required meetings and events, practicing prayers with their children, participating in Sunday Mass, and helping their children grow in faith at home.

  If your child has not been baptized, was baptized in another Christian tradition, or has not completed the required year of Catholic faith formation, please click Here for information about our Order of Christian Initiation for Children (OCIA-C) program.
